The disadvantages of collective classes
Every year trends related to physical activities are projected for the following months. For 2018, one of these trends are the collective classes in gyms. But the question we ask about that is: are these classes good for me?
Group classes mostly captivate the female audience, for being more dynamic. The use of rhythmic songs is a plus to the women who are not into weight lifting. Besides, it is a good chance to meet people and bond while working out.
Therefore, while these classes are good for some people, they may not be the best alternative if you have strength gain and hypertrophy as fitness goals.
Some of the disadvantages in this case include:
- in the vast majority of classes the number of people is increased;
- this number hinders the individualization of training prescription;
- too many people in a class also hinder the instructor’s follow-up during practice;
- too keep it safe, the instructor works with low intensities;
- in many cases the development of exercises does not respect biomechanical principles.
Therefore, we are not saying you should abolish these classes while at the gym, even though it is compulsory that they have a methodological organization which respects all of the training’s principles, as well as evolve in parallel with the exercise prescription science.
It is important that we have the habit of practicing a physical activity, but do not accept anything. Be conscientious, exercise consciously!
